Serving Christ at Christ Church

While we only have one priest at Christ Church, we have many ministers. According to the Bible, every baptized person is a minister of the gospel. Part of the priest's ministry is to connect those baptized ministers to the ministries to which God is calling them.

We start by believing that God is calling us to minister out of our strengths, not that he is calling us to minister so that we might improve our weaknesses. Our talents and abilities are surrendered to God's plan for our parish, and he will use our strengths to strengthen this parish.

Your strengths may lie in any of these areas:

  1. Assisting with public worship.
  2. Guiding our young people through Sunday School or Drama Kids.
  3. Using your musical talents (vocal or instrumental) to support the spirituality of the worshippers.
  4. Developing and guiding the administration, finances and organization of the parish.
  5. Maintaining the physical plant of the church and the parish house.
  6. Supporting the ministries of the Anglican Diocese of Athabasca.
  7. Developing relationships within the Christian Community of Grande Prairie.

Discovering your talents, abilities and gifts

Our Rector is ready to help guide you through a process of discerning where your strengths are. Using a "spiritual gifts inventory", Canon Leer can assist you to outline your talents, abilities and gifts so that you might be able to more effectively minister out of your strengths. Contact the Rector through the parish office for more information.

Developments in Pastoral Care

At Christ Church we are privileged to have a Lay Pastor, who is a recent graduate of the Pacific Jubilee Program in Spiritual Direction. Our Lay Pastor adds greatly to our pastoral care. Parishioners make use of her talents, training and abilities in the areas of pastoral care, spiritual direction and counselling. Parishioners are encouraged to contact her in cases of need through the parish office.
