Putting the Bible First

The centre and source of all our faith is God the Creator, as he is revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The authoritative fountain of knowledge about God is the Christian Bible, commonly divided into two major sections, the Old and New Testaments. Both our youth and adult programming focuses attention on developing our familiarity with and knowledge of that Bible.

In Christ Church our educational programming is directed through several avenues:

  1. A weekly Sunday School program for children ages 3 to 11, using a online curriculum based on the weekly readings from the Bible.
  2. A weekly youth program called "Drama Kids" for youth ages 12 and up that seeks to use drama and music to develop their understanding and application of the Bible.
  3. Two different mid-week adult Bible Studies.
  4. Baptism Preparation Courses, which seek to introduce new parents and adult candidates to the truths in God, in the Bible and in our understanding of baptism.
  5. Marriage Preparation Courses, which are aimed at assisting couples in developing the skills and understandings for a healthy, long-term relationship.
  6. First Communion Classes, presented when required, to assist young people in their understanding and appreciate of Holy Communion.
  7. Confirmation Courses, aimed at helping older teens and young adults to make the adult commitment of faith necessary for salvation.

Worship and Education

Christ Church places a strong emphasis on the worship and education of the community. We focus our efforts through our weekly celebration of the Holy Communion (a.k.a. Holy Eucharist, the Lord's Supper or even the Mass, particularly when referring to the midnight celebration of Christmas Eve). Like all Anglican Churches, we read four passages from the Bible every Sunday and our priest usually focuses his sermon on one of those texts. Through sharing the Word of God, both read and preached, and through sharing the sacrament of the Eucharist, believers worshipping with us will find their faith strengthened, their experience of the gospel deepened and their knowledge of Christianity intensified.
